friends indeed

Hi all, well yesterday steve and i went along to Manchester to meet up with some friends that wwe made whilst out in India on our travels, we were working in the local community in Jaipur and the four of them were all working on a conservation program also in Jaipur,
Every 2 weeks we would meet up in a co ordinators house for a meal and a chat , we actually only met up a couple of times but kept in touch through mark in Manchester , yesterday Trish flew in from Dublin and Colin and Matthew came up from London and we crossed the Pennines from Huddersfield to meet up with them .
It was a great social weekend and we had a great deal of memories to chat over , photos to see and it was really a lovely time,
we ate out and visited a few really quaint and unique old pubs and then went back to an apartment that they had rented , it was a short walk from our son Chris and his partners house ,
this morning once again we met up and had a stroll around the city , even going up on the huge city wheel for an amazing birds eye view of Manchester and its surrounding areas, all too soon it was time to say goodbye , with promises to all meet up again soon, i hope that we do , it was strange as it all happened 14 months ago and yet meeting up again was all like it only happened a short spell away, good to have met you all again and thanks for a truly great weekend !

winter blues

Well my goodness i have been so remiss in writing anything on this blog for a good 3 weeks, time flys by and before you know it we are into yet another month, february blew in with a vengence, it is cold and wintery, this week i have been on shift by myself as i have been on the rapid response shift, basically i park up and wait until the computer alerts me that there is an emergency for me to attend.
It was a busy week last week and i started my shifts at 4pm until 2 am, lots of chest infections and asthma attacks due to the severity of the weather, a few road traffic accidents and of course the inevitable sudden deaths, went to two in one evening and one poor chap was dead for at least 12 hours before he was discovered, its always a bit sad but a common factor for us ambulance folks to have to deal with..
Finished my shift at 2 o clock this morning and hit a white out on my way home . i have 12 miles to cover across country to get home and the snow blew in like i havnt seen for years , i was panicking worrying if i would make it home or not, i slid down turnshaws road almost careering into the butchers shop window, put my car in 2nd gear and limped up the hill in the driving snow, when i reached my road i turned the engine off and literally slid down to the level of my house before just managing to just level with the drive otherwise i would haver ended up at the bottom of the hill!!
Woke up at 9 am to see lots of snow , a real pretty picture but deadly cold, but the sun is out this afternoon so hopefully it will melt away.
Sat watching Ireland v Italy in the 6 nations rugby , i have a friend who is true Irish so no doubt he will be either over there or holed up in a pub somewhere enjoying the match and the craic!"
My lovely mother phoned from Malta where she went the other day for a months holiday, sun was shining and she was sat watching the yachts in the harbour , lucky her!!
We shall be off ourselves before too loong as we wend our way to Sri Lanka for a 3 week break, we love it so much out there and the local folk are really lovely genuine people
Our youngest son moves in with his girlfriend today , they will live in a flat in north london in Hendon are very excited about it all, he has just done a newsroom stint with the BBC at Manchester and has a placement fixed up soon with sky news so he is well chuffed (pleased)/
Other son is with his partner upin Newcastle for the weekend, to see a show and some good nights out , he just sent me a photo of the Angel of the North, the giant rusted statue that dominates the skyline from the A1 i think
We are meeting up soon with some friends that we made whilst out in India, we are having a meal and a night out all of us , one is coming over from Ireland and a couple from London , whilst one iis more local like us and is from Manchester, should be fun catching up
anyway thats a bit more news from me so i will say bye for now.

poor me!!!

Oh dear, i returned to work after my days off only to be struck down by a vomiting bug, i awoke on saturday morning with a really excruciating pain to my lower abdomen followed by a 40 minute stay in the lavatory, every time i got up i had to sit down again , the next few days followed with severe vomiting, anything that i tried too eat came straight back up.
My lovely husband steve looked after me good and proper and finally today i am able to eat without the food coming back again, i feel quite weak and have develpoed a chesty cough as my hubby has been running a cold the last few days, the woes of winter i think!
On a brighter note we have appeared as a couple of mature gappers in a magazine called woman and home, the feature is about people of middle years who take the bull by the horn and do something different, it reads quite nice really!
my mother has had a lovely birthday suprise bought for her, she is going on holiday to Malta for a month to escape the winter blues , her and her partner are jetting off in a month or so, good for them i say !
Anyway not much to write about at present will add more when fully recovered , cheers!

new year , new beginnings

Well, christmas came and went in a flash for me as i was working for most of it,i made the dinner for 12 people , 3 of which were vegetarians and it all seemed to go quite smoothly, my eldest son was amazed that i held myself together as he half expected me to be in a state of manic chaos...
New years eve was a chance for me to let my hair down and have a drink and a good time, we were up at the village hall for the new year eve and we had taken all our own food , there was a bar and a disco, the hall was packed to capacity as it was the first time an event for new year had ever been held in it.Everyone had made an effort to dress up and my mother and her partner joined us, lots of dancing a lots to drink and the midnight hour came in with Auld Lang Syne and party poppers and kisses all round, it was a lovely evening ,
Next day stephen and i went out for a drive in the car and ended up at Bakewell in the Peak District, it really is a pretty town in a beautiful location and we ambled by the river and watched people feeding the ducks , afterwards we headed off to Hathersage again in the Peak National Park , where we stopped off at the milldale pub and had a warming meal.
The holiday for our youngest son and his girlfriend is almost overand back to university again for him down in London, it was nice having them to stay, our eldest son the language teacher is back at school on Monday , back into the thick of it again , hubby went back to work this week and i am starting on the early shift at 6 am in the morning, the weather is bitterly cold and there i8s a virus sweeping the country at the moment Norovirus, lots of vomiting and upset stomaches , so no doubt we will all be busy on our shifts dealing with poorly folks suspecting they have the virus!!!
Had a lovely e mail from a friend that we met in India, Francine who lives in Australia, she is busy travelling as usual , and hopefully coming to England in April , so it will be great to catch up with her again.
As to new years resolutions , well i didnt really make any , but instead made a wish that all my family members are kept well and happy throughout the year,

christmas

Well what a week it was for me, i worked on nights and half nights all over the festive period, not so much festive as downright exhausting for ambulance staff out and about.
We started our shift in our own area but within 5 minutes we were out of area, one night spent solely in Leeds all night , no time alloted for a meal break , just job after job.....
Most of our work was to respond to drunken revellry and downright alcohol abuse!
14 and 15 years of age totally out of it laying out on the cold wet floor , a 68 year old man laying out on a pavement for over an hour at risk of Hypothermia, been drinking allday.
Youths cut and bleeding after having an argument once again fuelled by drink, its about time that something was done as to the availability of drink to young people and also about time that the public was educated in to when and when not to call for a ambulance,
I finished my run of nights fully exhausted and in between all this i cooked a christmas dinner on christmas day for 12 people just barely managing to sit down for an hour before setting off to work again.
So i am on my days off now and christmas is over once again for another year, its time to reflect and think about what i really want to do with my life , pick up drunks for ever , i really dont think so !!!!!

Spirit of Christmas?

What is it about Christmas that brings out the worst in some people?
I think the word Spirit has a great deal to do with it.
I went off to work last night at 10pm full of enthusiasim this being the festive weekend and straight away we were called to a pub fight where 30 people were all fighting, the night went from bad to worse , next we had a suicidal young woman who had a fall out with her boyfriend and when inside the ambulance requested that the said abusive boyfriend go along with her to support her!!!!
Then a chap very drunk fallen over and grazed his elbow, followed by a drunken youth who also had words with his girlfriend so decided to punch a mirror , damaging his fingers and not the slightest remorse.
This followed by a search in an area where someone had been seen on cctv supposedly assaulted but no where to be found , and at last a genuine poorly patient , an elderly person with pnuemonia, cannot wait to see what tonight brings with all the happiness and good cheer until the beer takes hold!!!!!

cold, cold ,cold!

Hello,
My goodness the weather has taken a turn for the worse, it is so cold , i heard on the weather news this morning that some places in england will be down to -9 degrees today and that is seriously cold !!!
went to Sheffield yesterday to meet our youngest son and his girlfriend , they are presently living in London , so have come north for Christmas, she is from Japan, and her family roots are Bhuddist so don't really celebrate Christmas like we do here.
They both decorated the tree and there was much excitement as we took all the decorations out of the boxes to put on the real tree,we have seen them so many times ,but Yuriko had never seen them so there was great delight and much laughter as we had a glass of wine or two to help proceedings along, Christmas music in the background and at last we began to feel festive.
Our other son and his partner are coming over on Christmas morning and other family members are coming for a get together and some food and games and present giving.

night out

Well last night was our works christmas night out, we all met up at The royal armories in Leeds, it was a great venue and the whole place was decked out in a Holloywood theme, lots of photo stills about of all the film stars past and present, we all made a special effort as we are so used to seeing one another in our paramedic greens , lots of sparkle and bling and that was just the guys!!!!
The food was really good, chicken or vegetarian wellington, so i was well sorted , lots of good music and dancing and laughter, the event concluded at 0130 and we made our way back home dropping a couple of friends home along the way,
Got up early today , lots to do still to prepare for christmas , youngest son arrives home on sunday with girlfriend, did a radio interview for his radio station yesterday "radio storm" at westminster university, my bit was about having to work over the festive period, it went ok i think,
So today i am shopping and then hopefully resting as am on a night shift tomight and all the office parties have started now so lots of drunk, unwell people to be called to i suspect.

Caught out

Well the mystery of the missing english man is about to unfold, it seems like he wasnt dead at all and was whooping it up with his wife in Panama, how remiss of him to not tell his sons that he was actually alive, and to fool his poor kids into believing that they had in fact lost their father , never to be seen again, and how terribly selfish of his wife to take all the insurance money and swan off to Panama , leaving the kids in their misery whilst she was going to live the high life, still justice hopefully will prevail,

Just had 2 days off, christmas shopping and freezer stocking up for christmas, i am working over the festive period so have to do it all now, the shops were buzzing with people, where does all the money come from?
Had a lovely meal in a tapas place with my mum,it was so nice to be out and about with her as we both seem to be busy all the time , had a big fat glass of Riocha and some tapas and a good lot of real belly laughs, it was a great day and then we rounded it off with a meal out in the evening with her partner and my hubby,
Met up with my friend jane yesterday and had a lunch together , so i think that it is about time i pulled my belt in and stopped eating so much , i will look like a barrel soon if i dont stop
Anyway got to go now , and prepare for work and see what kinds of things the day brings today , lots of christmas parties and drinking no doubt , so lots of falling over and not too well people out there.

tired and weary

Hi all out there,
well yesterday was my 8th day on early turn shifts, so i was well and truly knackered as the saying goes, too many early rises up at 0430 am to get ready for work.
I travel approx 11 miles to work and at that time the roads are really quiet, but 0n a 0600 o clock start it seems like the world wakes up at exactly that time, its like people are waiting in line for you to start work (or thats how it seems), the tannoy goes and the telephone and off we go, had a baby with epilepsy, lots of breathing difficulty patients , ( the weather has turned really cold now so all asthmatics and copd patients really begin to suffer ), had couple of deaths, a few patients with overdoses of medication, one patient with a heroin overdose, a diabetic who had a car crash, and a man who threw himself under a car.
Thats just a few of the things dealt with this week on early shift, so i am really ready for my 2 days off now, going christmas shopping with my mum today as i havnt had much time to spend with her of late.
Went to a meeting last night with the people that i met whilst i was in India, they were all from Batley and mirfield/ Dewsbury region so it was good to catch up with them , although i only met them for 6 days in october it was good to see them as firm friendships were made, hopefully i will be getting back to india again next year and back to the school in Gujurat again..
There was lots of food after the presentation , samosas and rice and bhajis etc , all my favorites.
So we are preparing for christmas although i will be working , i amj on half night shift so will at least be home in the day time, our youngest son who is studying in London will be arriving next week with his girlfriend and will stay 3 weeks with us, she is japanese so i want to make it a special christmas for her also,
lots of festive food and games to play and generally all the family will get together at our house on christmas day.
So thats all for today as i am about to hit the shops for a spot of retail therapy.

Monday 3 December 2007

workday

Well i was back at work today after a welcome week off, i am a paramedic in the town of Dewsbury in West Yorkshire England, i work 10 hour shifts and this week i am on the rapid response car, so i park up and wait for the screen to forward me a emergency and off i go ...Had a few people with difficulty in breathing and a person with a suspected heart attack .
Came home to read the news that a teacher in Sudan has been charged with blasphemy towards the prophet Mohammed, i cant help but think that this is all political correctness gone very wrong, maybe she was a bit naive , but that is all she should surely be accused of.

Anyway that is all for today as i am up at 0600 am in the morning for another shift on the rapid response car. who knows what tomorrow will bring.?

Monday 26 November 2007
